Here are 4 Hot Tips On How To Lose Weight And Keep It That Way!

Filed Under (health and wellness, healthy lifestyle, weight loss) by Viv on 14-04-2008

Let’s see if you are able to see a common theme in all the four hot tips I am going to mention below:

1. Swimming:

swimming.jpgDo you enjoy swimming? Do you know that swimming is one of the best ways of burning body fat? If you would like to get rid of your ugly potbelly then don’t lose a minute! Slip into your two-piece and jump onto the pool! You see: swimming not only helps you burn body fat and shape up your belly, it also strengthens your body and gives you a lot of energy! But then, if you are way too fat, then you may not be able to fit into your swimsuit. Don’t lose heart; there are other options too!

2. Running:

jogging.jpgIf you are not a fast swimmer, or don’t want to swim, don’t worry, because there are many other ways to lose fat fast! One of the best ways of getting rid of belly fat is by running regularly. Running not only helps you burn the extra calories and fat, it also keeps you fresh and energetic throughout the day. For best results, you should alternate between running and jogging.

3. Brisk/Speed Walking:

running.jpgIf you cannot keep up with high intensity exercises, then running may not be an option for you. In that case, you should try to brisk or speed walk. Have you ever thought of leaving the elevator and using the stairs to reach your office? This is really one of the coolest ways to lose weight. Also, try to brisk walk up to your office and give your old and tired car a break!

4. Dancing:

dancing.jpg

Ok, I understand that neither brisk walking nor running appeals to you. Probably you are a great dancer! Just in case you are not aware of it, dancing too can help you lose weight. So just hit out your favorite disc and start dancing…

Even if you are not a great dancer, that should not be an excuse. Perhaps some people are afraid they will make a fool of themselves if they fail to dance properly. Infact, you don’t need to dance in any special way in order to lose fat. If you are concerned about the etiquette of shaking a leg in public, why not join a dance class to learn all the required skills?

So now you can see what’s the common theme on the above is: KEEP YOUR BODY MOVING :) You just cannot expect to lose weight if you sit or lie round all day without doing anything. Move your body and eat healthy balanced foods, and you will surely be able to lose weight and keep it that way!

Aerobic Or Anaerobic Exercise For Optimal Weight & Good Health

Filed Under (exercise, fitness, weight loss) by Viv on 01-04-2008

fitness.jpgExercise is one of two main components and principles for reducing weight and for good health. Some might say exercise is the key to weight loss and some say a good diet is the key. There is one thing for sure though that if you combine the two together they react to form an unbeatable team in the fight to reduce weight and maintain it!

So what is the difference between Aerobic Exercise and Anaerobic Exercise?

Aerobic Exercise

Firstly Aerobic Exercise is basically exercise that is carried out at a moderate intensity and for a longer period of time. Most types of exercise are actually aerobic including jogging , cycling, walking etc.

Aerobic exercise is carried out at any intensity from 60-80% of your maximum heart rate and at an intensity you can carry on for a longer period of time. When exercising, runners.jpg for example jogging, your body uses the energy stored from food which is turned into glycogen to push you along. There is only a certain amount of glycogen in your body and as you use up your stored energy during exercise, you will feel your body tiring and aching. This is basically your body running out of glycogen. The fact is that when your body has used up its energy stores and to keep going it has to find a new fuel source and thus fat comes into the picture.

Fat lies in reserve for energy source and exercising for a longer period of time will then be burned up by the stored fat. From aerobic exercise you will most certainly witness an increase in your overall longer lasting fitness meaning overtime you can exercise for longer and longer meaning you maximise fat burning.

Anaerobic Exercise

anaerobic.jpgAnaerobic exercise is the opposite of aerobic exercise. Anaerobic exercise is performed at a much higher intensity between 80-100% max heart rate. This obviously means it isn’t long lasting. It is used by athletes to help build power, strength and speed into there bodies as exercises under an anaerobic intensity are examples like sprinting and weight lifting.

Anaerobic defines exercise carried out without the use of oxygen. As your muscles don’t have sufficient oxygen they then have to utilize another source within your body known as creatine phosphate.
The uses of these energy sources quickly burn up over a period and the use of fat as energy does come into play sometimes a lot quicker than if doing aerobic exercise. This is all done in a matter of seconds as the creatine phosphate generates what we call ATP that produces muscle contraction and after further seconds other sources are made available to ATP which includes glycogen, then lastly fat.

Muscles trained under anaerobic exercises obviously give different results than that of aerobic exercise and lead to greater performance in shorter duration activities and sports.

So Which Type Of Exercise Is The Better To Reduce Weight & Maintain It?

The fact is both will burn fat within your body for extensive research does suggest that combining the two can be hugely beneficial as your body is made to train under different intensities meaning it isn’t able to adapt to one or the other which does maximise fat burn as the human body is always looking to adapt to what you do to it.

Depending on your goals and what sort of fitness you are looking at would depend on the type of exercise you undertake but for fat burning and weight loss a combination of the two would be most beneficial within your plan.

Before you start any of the above exercise, keep in mind to see your physician first for an evaluation

Do You Know That Water Plays A Part In Your Weight Loss Program?

Filed Under (dieting, health and wellness, weight loss) by Viv on 03-02-2008

drink.jpgSo you have got your diet clean and healthy and you have been following your exercise program for a month now but you are getting discouraged with the results of your weight loss so far.

Now WHY you may ask yourself?
The fact is you MAY NOT be consuming enough water.
It sounds rather stupid really because all you ever read about to maximize your weight loss is to - follow a good calorie controlled clean diet and exercise, but not many people mention the important element - WATER. I, for one never give it a thought anyway :( until now.

Water is in fact one of the most important aspects in any weight loss plan and it is A VITAL FUEL for your body’s vital organs to not only work but to recover quickly. As most of us know, the hard part is sticking to your new diet plan and exercise program and even though, you may have achieved this already. However, by not consuming enough water you could actually be hindering the process and not optimize your results.

Let me explain… most probably, you may already know the process and system that takes place inside your body called “metabolism”. Well there is in fact many forms of metabolism inside your body but in this case, the most important one when it comes down to weight loss is your metabolism of fat. Now one of the vital organs within your body known as the liver. Liver is the main component in metabolising the fat which means taking your stored fat and making it available as energy to be burned away. So with this process that the liver carries out, it allows you to effectively burn away all that excess fat in your body thus producing weight loss.

Now you might be thinking what water has to do with this. Well, another vital job for your liver is to help out the kidneys within your body and effectively help do their job properly. Think filtration, your kidneys actually thrive on water and when they are deprived of any fluid they slack off and your liver is left to pick up where they left off thus preventing the liver from metabolising your stored fat. So by keeping your body well watered, would provide your vital organs including your kidneys with the water they thrive, which then assists each and every organ to focus on there own jobs to keep your body ticking over nicely. Deprive it and the organs within your body will not work to their maximum potential which in this case is to assist you in your weight loss journey.

Besides including water in your weight loss program, it also helps in your health and wellness in the long term and is great for the skin and keeping a clear mind. Sacrifice that cup of coffee in the morning for a glass of water, preferably tepid water and see if you can feel the difference. The main point to remember is that water is your friend and is there to help your body, deprive it and you will hinder the process of weight loss so by applying this simple rule it just adds more armory to your arsenal in the fight against fat.

Don’t forget to aim for at least 8 glasses(8 fl.oz) of water a day into your body which isn’t a lot when you think about it. If you are currently overweight a further 8 glasses per extra 25 pounds worth of body weight is advisable. Cheers!
