Thoughts on Why natural food is the key to healthy living

Filed Under (diet info care, health, life, natural food) by Viv on 31-08-2007

Natural food is basically the food that can be found in nature and consumed in its original form without baking it. For centuries people have known that these foods are beneficial for a healthy living. The scientific reason for this however is not known to many. Furthermore, with the spoilt food habits of children nowadays who prefer to consume junk food than natural foods, it is essential that this reason is known to them but then education is not enough. From my observation, parents should lead the correct example at home.

Unnatural foods that are consumed by us produce toxins in the body that leads to various diseases. However, these toxins can further be destroyed by an increased consumption of natural foods thereby eradicating and making an individual free from almost or at least minimize all diseases that he would suffer from. Some of the doctors even claim that the natural foods even have the power for the growth of new hair and teeth in people in their old age. Not forgetting that medical bills can wipe out all your savings overnight!

Additionally, the cooling effect and their nutrients of the natural and juicy fruits such as watermelon, orange and many others that are found in summers are known to all of us. Similarly, there are other seasonal fruits and vegetables that provide high nutritional value.

People these days worry more about satisfying their taste buds rather than the nutritional requirements of their body. Most of us eat vegetables and fruits that have been peeled and in the process we also peel off the fiber, minerals and vitamins that are contained in them. Several naturopaths are of the opinion that natural products are present in their holistic form and thereby the effect that it has is also holistic, which is destroyed when the food is cooked.

Natural foods in some cases can also harm your body. That is to say, consuming a natural food, as it exists without cooking is good for health, but washing them before consuming it is also necessary. This is because, there are various pesticides and chemical fertilizers that might have got stuck to them at the time of farming which when consumed can cause many sickness.

Finally, natural food should be consumed no doubt, but a few precautions should also be kept in mind. After all, your body is your temple. Love your body and it will give you longevity.

The battle between junk food and health food

Filed Under (family, health, junk food, nutrition, obesity) by Viv on 25-08-2007

So what is junk food anyway?

According to the definition, any food item that has low nutritive value as per the Food Standards Academy and deemed unhealthy by the non-eaters is termed as Junk Food. The term was coined by the Center for Science director, Michael Jacobson, in 1972. Since then, the term has been commonly used.

Basically, the most common components of “junk food” are fats, sugars and all things that make you fat and do not contain proteins or vitamins or fibers for that matter, so here label reading is definitely a must. I get a real kick when the promoters in the supermarkets go ‘disappeared’ whenever they see me reading the labels.

Then why is junk food so popular and why are there rows and rows of them in the supermarkets? Even sometimes I couldn’t resist it, what with all those eye-catching packaging….so do watch out for the so-called ‘good buys’. Its a deafening no-no of course!

#1. The taste is impeccable, as nothing beats it. Although, the non-junk-food is nutritive but it may necessarily not stir your sense of taste however, the “junk food” is bound to instigate euphoria.

#2. The price is compatible with the pocket money for most of the kids and the teenagers who frequent the joints and it also is a great buy to makeup for the shortage of time.

#3. The ease at which it is available. Wherever you go, whenever you go, you are bound to find a place that caters to your taste for the junk food and where you can eat all the junk food that you want.

#4. It is easy to produce and is a cheap investment for the producers and the investors. It also turns out to be a great investment for it has a long shelf life and in some cases may not even require refrigeration and the taste and the variety further strengthen the motion.

Ok, now for the cons…

#1. Although, the taste is impeccable and does stir the senses of taste a great deal, but the feeling of euphoria comes at a great price. The person pays, besides the money, in terms for their precious health.

#2. The health hazards related to junk food are diabetes milletus (Type 2 diabetes), obesity, dental cavities, and the most dangerous, heart diseases like high blood pressure, arteriosclerosis and many more.

#3. The major reason behind the hazards is the ingredients, the same ingredients gives the junk food their delicious yummy taste.

#4. One must keep in mind that there is nothing called as a free lunch and nothing, absolutely nothing, called as the perfect and healthy junk food.

Well, from today lets start to learn how to read the labels and make it a criteria as a consumer. Next, be always mindful of what we feed our body with. We should always make it a challenge to stay as healthy as possible….for medical bills are more expensive than junk food.

have a lemon water a day

Filed Under (alkaline, detox, family, health) by Viv on 23-08-2007

One of the easiest way to alkaline your body after eating those acidic foods is making your own lemon water and drink it up.

My friends think it is such a hassle having to squeeze the juice out of the lemon daily, but I feel that in the long run it is beneficial to your health. When the water is alkalized, lemon water helps to clean and stimulate our liver and kidneys. Besides that, lemon drink also helps in digestion problems like bloating and heartburn.

By the way, lemon juice do contain some minerals like potassium, magnesium and calcium as well as the well-known Vitamin C.

Letting in my secret - Once a week, I would use two-halves of a whole lemon for my body scrub! When you come out of your bath you would feel the cleanliness and freshness. So where can you get such a cheap but safe and natural skin cleanser?

Hope you will give it a try and let us know how you feel.

Goodbye, disposable chopsticks!

Filed Under (family, health) by Viv on 17-08-2007

I have finally bought my family their personal travel size chopsticks today. Besides saving the environment, at least I would have peace of mind about the health hazards in the long term, after reading how these disposable chopsticks are being made.
It is really a hassle to have to soak this disposable chopsticks in hot water for at least 5 minutes just to get rid of the bleach and other chemicals.
I am very happy I found this travel chopsticks that can be brought along with you where ever you go. They are made of stainless steel and comes with two tops and two ends where you just screw them when you need to use them. A case comes with it and after you have finish using it, you just unscrew them and bring home to wash. Not only that, I found it could be used as a stirrer as well.
Now, I better hurry up looking for that elusive camera of mine and then I can put the picture up for you to see.

On The Road To Recovery

Filed Under (TCM, family, health) by Viv on 15-08-2007

Phew! Time really doesn’t wait for man. It has been quite sometime since my last blog. I must really get my dear blog going. There are still a lot of work to do.

I had been so busy with my guests and after that I contracted a very bad cough (which is the first time) until I lost my voice, even home remedies didn’t help. Because of fever it became infectious that I had to isolate myself from the family. I must have slept for over a week, partly I was coughing the whole night and could only get to sleep in the day.
Later, it reversed to coughing in the day. They were terrible coughs and makes me wonder if my neighbours were disturbed by my coughing episodes.

tcm.jpgAccording to my TCM physician, this ailment would evolve into 3 stages, according to the elements like from ‘heaty’ to ‘cool’ and am now in the ‘wind’ stage which means I’ve seen him 3 times already, each time the medicine is tailored according to the state of the cough.

By blogging you can get to know what the doctors in other countries think about diet. You will also get to know many ways of dieting. One needs to take a balanced diet always, to stay healthy and fit. Likewise, mediterranean diet is a modern nutritional model inspired by the traditional dietary patterns of some of the countries of the Mediterranean basin. Internet has loads of information on detox diets too. Due to increasing awareness therefore, people are getting more careful in this regard.

Anyway, this evening, my appetite is starting to come back which means am on the road to recovery……So I am looking forward very soon to catching up with my blog, my friends, ……
